Producers Bruce Hendricks and Galen Walker have optioned the rights to Stanley Kubrick’s “Lunatic at Large,” one of three unmade Kubrick screenplays discovered in the film director’s library after his death in March 1999. Variety first reported the news. While plot details for “Lunatic at Large” are a mystery, Hendricks and Walker describe Kubrick’s script as a “film noir thriller in keeping with other collaborations between Kubrick and his frequent collaborator, screenwriter Jim Thompson.” Kubrick and Thompson’s shared filmography includes the 1956 film noir “The Killing,” plus “Paths of Glory” and “Spartacus.”
“The opportunity to bring a Stanley Kubrick project to the screen after so many years is a dream come true,” Walker said in a statement. “We look forward to making a film in keeping with his unique style and vision.”

Producers Bruce Hendricks and Galen Walker have optioned the rights to the late Stanley Kubrick’s archival project “Lunatic at Large” and plan to adapt it into feature film.
The project was one of three film stories that were found in Kubrick’s library after he died in 1999. Kubrick, whose seminal filmography includes “2001: A Space Odyssey,” ” Dr. Strangelove,” “The Shining” and “Eyes Wide Shut,” had intended to direct “Lunatic at Large” at some point.
Plot details are under wraps, but producers described it as a film-noir thriller in keeping with other collaborations between Kubrick and his frequent collaborator, screenwriter Jim Thompson. Production is slated to begin in fall 2021.

The Hollywood studios and other international producers that were hoping to take advantage of the Federal Government’s $140 million Location Incentive Program over the next few years may well be disappointed.
The fund runs until June 30 2023 – but only $18 million remains to be allocated. The figure was revealed by Dr Stephen Arnott, First Assistant Secretary, Arts, at a Senate Estimates hearing in Canberra earlier this week.
Dr Arnott told Greens Senator Hanson-Young: “As of now, $122 million has been committed, so that leaves $18 million uncommitted.”
The Senator then asked: “Just to be clear, unless we put some more money in, we’ve got $18 million to spend until 2022-23?”
Dr Arnott: “Yes.”
Last week the Government announced it’s allocating $30 million from the program to Dick Cook Studios Australia’s planned fantasy features Ranger’s Apprentice and The Alchemyst.

Exclusive: Teri Taylor, who was installed as Paramount's head of casting when Adam Goodman took the top production job, will be leaving that post at the end of her contract. Joseph Middleton, a well established casting director who has worked with Goodman on projects from Old School to Little Fockers, will be taking over the top post as of next week, I'm told. Taylor will become an independent agent, but will not be going away empty handed. She will be assigned the job of casting Paranormal Activity 3, which is currently being put together for an October release. Casting is getting underway on that film even though the studio hasn't yet set a director. Taylor, who under her post cast Paranormal Activity 2, will likely be assigned other films, insiders said. Middleton has worked on such films as The Bourne Identity and The Bourne Supremacy franchise, Mr. and Mrs. Smith, Twilight Saga: New Moon and Fair Game.

Bruce Hendricks, president of physical production at Walt Disney Studios since 1999, is leaving the company, TheWrap has confirmed. Marcia Ross, EVP of feature casting, also is leaving. The two are wrapping up projects over the next few months. When Hendricks was hired, then-chairman Dick Cook said, "What makes Bruce unique in production is his talents and background as a filmmaker. With Disney making fewer live-action movies, longtime president of physical production Bruce Hendricks is exiting the studio in a mutual parting of the ways.
Hendricks' ties to Disney extend beyond the top post. He also directed Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert and Jonas Brothers: The 3D Concert Experience.
As head of physical production for more than a decade, Hendricks worked on dozens of live-action projects, including the Pirates of the Caribbean and National Treasure franchises.
Hendricks is stll at the studio on a consulting basis for the next several months, but is no longer running the physical production division.
Since taking over as chair of Disney, Rich Ross has said the studio will make fewer of its own titles. The only 2011 Disney live-action movies dated so far are Prom, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides
and the untitled Muppets movie.
That lessens the demand on the physical production division.

Was it only just Monday when it was announced that acclaimed documentary filmmaker Davis Guggenheim (An Inconvenient Truth, It Might Get Loud, Waiting for "Superman") would be helming a 3D-tastic concert movie all about superstarlet Justin Bieber, due out next February?
Well, if Deadline Hollywood's to be believed, Guggenheim has since changed his mind and stepped down from the project. (Cue Dramatic Bieber.) This leaves not only a hole in the hearts of countless teenage girls, but a director's seat vacant for anyone willing to take on the life and times of this Canadian pop phenom.
Who might be up to the challenge? How about Kenny Ortega, the brains behind This is It and High School Musical? Or what about Bruce Hendricks, who already did 3D concert movies for both Hannah Montana and the Jonas Brothers? Surely, he could handle the Beebster. Barring that, I hear this fellow's made a couple of concert films himself.

Well, it sure didn't take long for Oscar-winning director Davis Guggenheim to drop out of the directing gig for the Untitled 3D Justin Bieber Biopic.
Mike Fleming at Deadline reports Guggenheim withdrew last night saying "he'll be too busy promoting Waiting For Superman" to perform helming duties on the 3D biopic of Bieber, a 16-year-old YouTube popstar sensation.
I must admit, while I don't care who does what, it was a bit shocking to learn Guggenheim was tackling such an odd production, but it's really no more odd than him being named director only to have news surface saying he's dropped out only 48 hours later. What gives?
We could speculate as Fleming has that "Guggenheim might have gotten too much razzing from all of his documentary peers," but I think we all can be quite certain it had nothing to do with his promotion duties related to Waiting For Superman,...
Mike Fleming at Deadline reports Guggenheim withdrew last night saying "he'll be too busy promoting Waiting For Superman" to perform helming duties on the 3D biopic of Bieber, a 16-year-old YouTube popstar sensation.

Rich Ross has opted against naming one executive to succeed ousted Disney film president Mark Zoradi, but the new studio chairman gave a big attaboy and promotion to home entertainment topper Bob Chapek in regime changes unveiled Wednesday.
Chapek was promoted to a post overseeing the studio's distribution activities. Zoradi had overseen marketing and distribution operations at the film studio; Disney said a top marketing exec would be named soon.
Disney marketing president Jim Gallagher, who reported to Zoradi, is leaving the company.
Among other promotions, Disney business-affairs boss Alan Bergman will take on additional responsibilities involving postproduction and some other operations, and production president Oren Aviv gains oversight of physical production. Pixar technology head Greg Brandeau was upped to Disney chief technology officer and executive vp.
All four promoted execs will report to Ross.

The movie itself is critic-proof, but the box office, DVD and Blu-ray sales are not. It seems that Disney’s nigh endless well of self-made stars may finally be starting to dry out – and not a moment too soon. Since the Disney Channel shifted away from playing old episodes of Tale Spin, Goof Troop and Gummi Bears all those years ago, they’ve been on an endless and seemingly unstoppable quest to create and market a new generation of stars. Unto itself, that’s not a bad goal. But even after unleashing Shia LeBoeuf on the world, Disney’s thirst for creating celebrity legacies became insatiable. Hannah Montana. Miley Cyrus. And now the Jonas Brothers; but unlike Hillary Duff, the Jonas Brothers don’t even have the smallest modicum of talent – and Jonas Brothers: The 3D Concert Experience makes that clear in as many dimensions as it can.

Bruce Hendricks' concert movie "Jonas Brothers: The 3D Concert Experience" topped the North American box office Friday with an estimated $4.8 million in ticket sales.
Playing in 3D, the film follows the popular band on their Burning Up tour. The formula already proved successful for last year's "Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert Tour," which grossed $65.2 million.
Last week's winner "Madea Goes to Jail" dropped to No. 2, earning $4.6 million and reaching a domestic total of $52.9 million. Finishing third was "Slumdog Millionaire," which brought its cumulative gross to $106.1 million after Friday's gross of $3.2 million.
Meanwhile, Pierre Morel's thriller "Taken" took home $2.8 million Friday, lifting its total haul to $100.7 million. At No. 5, Ken Kwapis' comedy "He's Just Not That Into You" earned $1.9 million for a cumulative gross of $74.5 million.

It will be a quiet week, as we're only looking at two wide releases this Friday: Andrzej Bartkowiak's "Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li" with Kristin Kreuk, and Bruce Hendricks' "Jonas Brothers: The 3D Concert Experience." Let's take a closer look:
Street Fighter: The Legend Of Chun-li
Synopsis: Warriors converge on the streets of Bangkok, preparing for the ultimate battle of terror versus beauty, light versus darkness and good versus evil. That's the official synopsis, anyway, and I think that pretty much sums it up well enough.
First thoughts: People have been throwing plenty of hate at me already because I think the trailer and clips for "Street Fighter" look pretty lame, but hey, I don't care. I simply can't warm up to this film, and come Friday, I'll know whether I was right approaching it with low expectations.

Jonas Brothers fans, rejoice! You will soon get to see your musical heroes on the big screen and in 3D!
The folks at Yahoo! Movies recently debuted four brand-new clips from the upcoming "Jonas Brothers: The 3D Concert Experience," which will open in theaters Feb. 27 in 3D.
In the film, you will get to follow the band across the country on its "Burning Up Tour." You'll get to see them onstage, backstage, in their hotel rooms, etc.
Bruce Hendricks, who directed the film, also helmed last year's "Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert Tour," which brought in a whopping $65.2 million.
It will be interesting to see if the Jonas Brothers have the power to kick Hannah Montana's butt, but my guess is they probably won't (at least not if the film is released exclusively in 3D, and I am not quite sure of that).

Walt Disney Pictures is the latest studio to drop off some new images and information regarding their 2009 slate of films and fortunately for me they have supplied very little in way of pictures, which makes my job much easier, however for you it means you aren't going to get as many goodies such as no images from G-Force, nothing new for Up and not even a preview image for A Christmas Carol. From what I can tell the most exciting thing is a scruffy pic of Bruse Willis in Surrogates, but how about you be the judge? Over the next three pages are all 14 of Disney's upcoming flicks with cast, director, synopsis and picture gallery links where they apply. Remember, the links open in a new browser window so just close the new window to return to this article and continue the preview. Enjoy! Confessions Of A Shopaholic Feb. 13, 2009 Photo:...

NEW YORK -- If there ever was a commercial film release that also qualified as an act of public service, it's this 3-D concert film from Disney. Although it should reap plenty of coin for its so-called limited engagement, the awkwardly titled "Hannah Montana & Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert" also comes as a godsend to those hordes of desperate parents unable to secure tickets for their heartsick tweens during the teen star's sellout tour last year.
For the benefit of those who have been living under a rock, "Hannah Montana" is a genuine cultural phenomenon. The titular character of this hit Disney Channel show is a bona fide pop recording star whose recent sold-out, 69-city concert tour famously resulted in tickets being resold for unimaginable prices. Hannah Montana is played by actress-singer-songwriter Miley Cyrus, who in bizarrely schizophrenic fashion also performs under her own persona.
Considering that it runs a scant 74 minutes -- which includes numerous backstage scenes -- the film clearly is not presenting the entirety of the live show. But it should offer enough to please most audiences, and director Bruce Hendricks has filmed the fast-paced musical action in sufficiently breathless fashion. As with the recent U2 concert film, the 3-D aspect -- you'll duck when the musicians throw guitar picks and drumsticks at the camera -- adds greatly to the experience.
The concert itself, conceived and produced by director-choreographer Kenny Ortega (the "High School Musical" telefilms), is a typically flashy affair featuring plenty of lavish visual, film and lighting effects and nonstop movement. Some of the film's more amusing background scenes show the young star's game attempts to handle such choreographic duties as manipulating her microphone stand with her foot and letting herself be hoisted in the air by several male backup dancers.
Besides the deafening concert footage featuring Cyrus performing as herself and her blond-wigged alter ego, the film also features a musical appearance by The Jonas Brothers, another youthful act catering to the same demographic. (It's more than a little disconcerting when one of them introduces a number by saying, "This is for all the ladies in the house.")
Cyrus' proud pop, singer-actor Billy Ray Cyrus, makes a few appearances as well, at one point reassuring his daughter about the quality of her band: "And that's coming from a guy who's played every Indian casino between the Atlantic and the Pacific," he says.
Montages of various crew members all wearing Hannah Montana wigs and a seemingly endless procession of screaming little girls add to the fun.

This review was written for the theatrical release of "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End."For what it's worth, the trilogy-capping "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End," represents a considerable step up from the soulless "Dead Man's Chest."
Johnny Depp's Captain Jack Sparrow's in fine flighty form and the enterprise as a whole has reconnected with some of that fun stuff that made it such a pleasant excursion when it first set sail back in 2003.
Of course, even if that wasn't the case, those legions of "Pirates" fans wouldn't really care, having previously ignored critics' warnings to the tune of $423 million in North America alone.
So they'll likely overlook the fact that it still takes an awfully long time (two hours and 47 minutes) getting to where it needs to go and you could make yourself seasick trying to untangle all those confusing plot lines (at least 15, according to our count).
In other words, "At World's End," which hits in this end of the world Thursday night, shouldn't have any problems beating its previous openings, though that expansive running time could take a nip out of its record-breaking potential.
Cutting to the chase, "World's End" finds Will Turner (Orlando Bloom), Elizabeth Swann (Keira Knightley) and Captain Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush, who only made a brief appearance at the end of "Dead Man's Chest") setting sail on a quest to gather together the Nine Lords of the Brethren Court in a bid to defeat the pirate-hating Lord Cutler Beckett (Tom Hollander) and Admiral Norrington (Jack Davenport).
The only problem is, one of those Lords, Jack Sparrow, is still trapped in Davy Jones' Locker, and, in order to get to him, Turner, Swann and company must first make a stop in Singapore to secure a ship and some handy maps from formidable Chinese pirate Sao Feng (Chow Yun-Fat).
And with everybody having their own personal agendas, the voyage turns into one big crazy game of Who Do You Trust?
It all feels more than a tad overstuffed, as if director Gore Verbinski, along with writers Ted Elliott and Terry Rossio, shared with "Spider-Man" franchise director Sam Raimi the need to cram everything in here, in the event that this would be his last time calling the shots whether or not the movies would continue.
But while it still lacks the giddy zip of "Curse of the Black Pearl", the new edition delivers its share of entertaining sequences, especially wherever Depp is concerned.
His otherworldly confinement in Davy Jones Locker gives way to absurdist flights of fancy that suggest a meeting of the minds of Chuck Jones, Tim Burton and Salvador Dali, and bring something novel to the "Pirates" table.
More than ever, Depp masterfully keeps the enterprise afloat, even when the sheer weight of all those other characters threatens to throw it off-course.
In addition to the above-mentioned, the extensive passenger list also includes Bill Nighy as the heavily tentacled Davy Jones, Stellan Skarsgard as Turner's imprisoned dad Bootstrap Bill, Naomie Harris as Tia Dalma, the gypsy queen who turns out to be a true force of nature, and, most notably, Keith Richards in a brief but memorable turn as crusty Keeper of the Code and Sparrow's mentor, Captain Teague.
Production values are typically shipshape, with production designer Rick Heinrichs and visual effects supervisors John Knoll and Charles Gibson again delivering on those trademark gargantuan set pieces, while composer Hans Zimmer manages to add some fresh flourishes to the familiar "Pirates" mix.
