Tommy Wirkola, the popular Norwegian helmer of “Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters” and “Dead Snow,” will be making his animation debut with “Spermageddon,” a humor-laced musical feature about the beginning of life.
Charades has boarded the project and will represent it in international markets.
“Spermageddon” follows two narrative threads — the emerging love story between two awkward teens, Jens and Lisa, who are having sex for the first time; and the eventful quest of Simon the Semen and his friends to reach the golden goal, the Egg.
“This is both a road movie and an epic adventure, a most incredible journey, much like Lord of the Rings. But instead of Orcs and elves, our heroes have to do battle with sperm-killing creams and e.Coli trolls,” said Wirkola in his director’s notes.
The project is described as being in the veins of “Sausage Party,” exploring mature content through comedy, creative animation and grown-up language.

"The last thing they need is that we find a new symbol." IFC Films has debuted an official trailer for a new survival thriller titled The 12th Man, the latest film from prominent Hollywood director Harald Zwart. The film tells the true story of a WWII resistance fighter from Norway named Jan Baalsrud, played by Thomas Gullestad. After the Nazis invaded Scandinavia, resistance fighters would do their best to fight back. After a failed anti-Nazi sabotage mission leaves his eleven comrades dead, Jan ends up on the run from the Gestapo through the snowbound Arctic reaches of Scandinavia. The cast includes Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Marie Blokhus, Mads Sjøgård Pettersen, Vegar Hoel, Håkon T. Nielsen, and Eirik Risholm Velle. This looks like a harrowing survival film, nothing particularly new, but still intriguing enough to warrant a watch sometime. Here's the first official trailer (+ poster) for Harald Zwart's ...

*full disclosure: a DVD screener of this film was provided by Well Go USA. Director: Tommy Wirkola. Writers: Stig Frode Henriksen and Vegar Hoel and Tommy Wirkola. Cast: Vegar Hoel, Ørjan Gamst, Martin Starr and Jocelyn DeBoer. Director Tommy Wirkola returns to the zombie genre with Dead Snow 2: Red vs Dead. After dabbling in bigger films, including Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters (2013), Wirkola returns to where he began, indie horror. This sequel, to the 2009 film, picks up right where the last one ended. Martin (Vegar Hoel) is still dealing with cursed, Nazi zombies. This time, the enemy is growing and seeking revenge, on a small town, in Norway. This sequel utilizes lots of exterior shootings, while relying on a comedic and light tone. Horror elements are minimized. And, any real thrills or scares are forgotten, in favour of over-the-top camp. Still, Dead Snow 2: Red vs Dead brings a great...

I enjoyed the first Dead Snow film well enough, but it seemed like it gathered a ravenous fanbase, which I was not a part of. It was a competently made zombie film, but at the time, I had pretty much had it up to here with the genre. Plus, another couple of nazi “zombie” movies came out around the same time, such as Outpost, and to a lesser extent, Frankenstein’s Army. I had little hope for a sequel to a mostly decent foreign zombie movie. You can imagine my surprise when early word of mouth from the festival circuit was mostly positive. After around 50 emails, I was finally able to find a PR person with an online screener for me to view. The first time I would see Dead Snow 2 would be mostly in its native tongue. I realized that Martin Starr was in the film, however, so I...

What is worse than zombies? Cursed zombies! Tommy Wirkola's sequel to Dead Snow (2009) is more grand than the first film. This time, a whole platoon of the undead are set to attack a snowy town and a group of zombie hunters. As well, Dead Snow 2: Red vs Dead will release in multiple territories, shortly. A release in the United Kingdom takes place this January and a UK trailer for the release is available here. The clip shows some of the more exciting action sequences. The character Martin (Vegar Hoel) returns to the sequel. This time his severed arm has been reattached, but it has a mind of its own. Meanwhile, a troupe of Nazi zombies is in search of missing loot. And, Martin possesses some of that gold. Rotting and living flesh will collide, in snowy climes. This title, which was shot in Iceland, has set its sights on a wide release.

Over the years there has been a boom in Norwegian horror with films like Dark Woods, Manhunt, Cold Prey and it’s sequels and, of course, Tommy Wirkola’s Nazi zombie epic, Dead Snow. And now comes the sequel, Dead Snow 2: Red or Dead, which picks up directly where the last film ended. For those that don’t remember, the original film saw a group of horny teens head out to a cabin miles from nowhere, high up in the snowy Norwegian mountains, with no cell phone reception and no car. Being typical movie teens the gang indulge in all the usual “horror movie teenager” behaviour: sex, booze and partying. However their...

Dead Snow 2 played to a sold-out crowed at Toronto After Dark 2014, and from what I’ve been told, the crowd loved it. I loved it too, and so did contributor Mitch Reaves. Mitch is helping me out a bit, and below is his review of the film. Jeff will be back later with more from the ground-floor of the event, and I will have a couple more reviews today myself. I hope you’re enjoying our coverage of the 2014 Toronto After Dark Film Festival.

It’s been a few years, but the greedy Colonel Herzog and his bloodthirsty troop of Nazi zombies are back with a vengeance in Dead Snow 2: Red vs. Dead.
Picking up exactly where Martin’s (Vegar Hoel) hellish vacation left off, the horror appears to be over as Colonel Herzog (Ørjan Gamst) retrieves his stolen Nazi gold – except for one piece that falls out of the lone survivor’s clothes. Martin barely evades Herzog one last time, but after finding himself far from his icy tomb, the undead Nazi suddenly remembers the mission his platoon was to carry out before being ambushed and killed.
With a new sense of purpose, the zombie battalion sets out with only destruction on their mind, and it’s up to Martin to stop them with the help of a very special weapon in the form of Herzog’s severed arm. Yes, in a series of mishaps,...

Dead Again: Wirkola Outstays Welcome of Outlandish Gimmick
For those that were generally amused by Norwegian filmmaker Tommy Wirkola’s breakout festival hit Dead Snow (2009), in which a group of skiers were accosted by a gaggle of Nazi zombies, then avoiding its sequel, Dead Snow 2: Red vs. Dead may be in order if you wish to retain your pleasant memories of the first chapter. Suffering from a rampage of defiant narrative mistakes often administered in unnecessary sequels, this rehash is laconic, unenthusiastic and inherently routine. Now, the motivation of these zombie zealots has to be rationalized and explained to some degree, which only kills the slightly amusing idiocy of the first film—a feeling akin to the difference between joking about an easy target like Christian Scientologists, and then, say, being forced to attend an eight hour seminar that seriously teaches its religious tenets.

Excellent use of intestines." For a certain segment of the movie-going audience, that's all the recommendation Dead Snow 2: Red vs. Dead needs. But director Tommy Wirkola's inventiveness with splatter extends well beyond the splash zone. His 2009 breakout, Dead Snow, was in many ways a standard horror siege film: good guys inside the cabin, Nazi zombies outside. After a high-speed recap, Dead Snow 2 broadens the canvas almost immediately. Martin (Vegar Hoel), the original's sole survivor (who chopped his own arm off), wakes up in a hospital with the zombie leader's arm sewn onto his stump...and, Evil Dead–style, it has a mind of its own. Herzog, the chief Nazi, is marching his troops toward a village he'd been ordered to exterminate decades bef...

Ever had one of those days when you wake up in a hospital following a car accident to discover the cops believe you killed several of your friends and that a surgeon has mistakenly grafted a Nazi-zombie arm onto your right elbow? Who hasn't, right? Regardless, that is the situation facing Martin (Vegar Hoel) in the new horror film Dead Snow 2: Red Vs. Dead. Well Go USA has debuted one last official trailer for Tommy Wirkola's sequel Dead Snow 2: Red vs. Dead, the follow-up to the insanely absurd horror comedy Dead Snow from 2009. This time they up the ante taking things out of the winter wilderness and onto the streets of a small town when the undead Nazi army returns to finish what they started. The film picks up where the first left off with Martin, played by Vegar Hoel, still alive after the first incident but stuck with a "super-powered Zombie arm" trying to kill him. We previously featured an early festival teaser for this a while ago, but this footage gives us a taste of the entire film and it looks wild 'n crazy, as expected. In the wilderness of Norway, a battle between medical students and Nazi zombies resulted in a lot of lost limbs and bloody carnage. The fight between the living and the dead continues in Dead Snow 2: Red vs. Dead, writer/director Tommy Wirkola’s sequel to his blood-drenched 2009 zombie feature. The movie’s new poster offers a warning of a headless horror to come.

WellGo USA will be releasing Dead Snow 2: Red vs. Dead (review) in theaters on October 10, 2014, and right now we have another brand new one-sheet to share with you cats that's unfortunately nowhere near as good as the last.
The film is directed by Tommy Wirkola, who helmed Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters, and stars Norwegian actor Vegar Hoel as Martin, the sole survivor of the first Dead Snow’s zombie bloodbath. Martin Starr, currently of HBO’s "Silicon Valley" fame, co-stars alongside Hoel and Norwegian actor Orjan Gamst, who plays the evil zombie warlord Herzog.
While an obvious homage to classic zombie movies like Evil Dead and Braindead, Dead Snow introduced a new element to the genre by giving the dead zombies an agenda. Dead Snow 2: Red vs. Dead takes things even further, giving the world's favorite monsters not just a Nazi agenda but a desire for revenge.

Before reading any further, please understand that you’re following a reviewer who gave Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters a positive review – not glowing, but still a fresh tomato. Why do I admit to such blasphemy? Because that’s how much I respect Norwegian filmmaker Tommy Wirkola, so now when I start gushing about Dead Snow 2: Red Vs. Dead, you’ll have the proper background.
With that said, Dead Snow 2: Red Vs. Dead is too much zombie-killin’ fun for one horror movie. I walked away from Dead Snow admiring Wirkola’s ability to marry genre lovin’ with a serious, graphically visual bite, and his goose-stepping sequel ups the ante in almost every way. Besides showing a twisted obsession with ripping out character’s intestines, Wirkola doesn’t hold anything back as far as “safety” may be concerned. If you thought Nazis were evil enough, these Nazi Zombies show the mercy of Adolf Hitler,...

★★★★☆What two more distasteful subjects could there be than Nazis and zombies - neither of which could usually be mistaken as the basis for a humorous film. Combine them however (with the addition of the remnants of a Russian army), under the guidance of director Tommy Wirkola, and what you get is Dead Snow 2: Red vs. Dead (2014). The follow-up to his cult hit Dead Snow (2009) is the ultimate in gross-out horror with heavy helpings of side-splitting humour. Picking up where the original instalment finished, we see Martin (Vegar Hoel), the sole survivor of the zombie massacre, involved in a car crash along with the severed arm of Nazi Colonel Herzog (Ørjan Gamst) lying on the floor beside him.

Now here's a cool little teaser poster! Helping to promote the limited theatrical run it'll be receiving in the Us from 10 October Tommy Wirkola's zombie sequel 'Dead Snow 2: Red Vs. Dead' has gone all out Nazi. The new poster features a swastika made up of blood and limbs accompanied by the best-worst tagline I've ever heard...'The Sequel You Did Nazi Coming'. Genius! The follow-up to Wirkola's ('Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters') 2009 original stars Vegar Hoel, Stig Frode Henriksen, Ingrid Haas ('Scott Pilgrim vs. the World'), Jocelyn Deboer and Martin Starr ('This is the End'). There was a battle between the living and the dead in the wilderness of Norway in 2009, and it ended in a bloodbath. Writer/director Tommy Wirkola’s Norwegian horror film, Dead Snow, pitted a group of vacationing medical students against an army of Nazi zombies. The fight continues in Dead Snow 2: Red vs. Dead, hitting theaters this Halloween season.
From WellGo, Dead Snow 2: Red vs. Dead is scheduled for an October 10th release in the Us.

And there’s a lot of them. On the orders of a rotten Führer, the zombies from Dead Snow return to settle old German scores. In the continuation of the epic splatterfest from 2009, Martin, the sole survivor of the first movie, prove that there’s more badass shit in Northern Norway than even Nazi zombies would be prepared for. Philadelphia's Awesome Fest sounds… well… awesome. To be clear, though, it appears this is an evolution of the already-existent event, which is now being called The Bruce Campbell Horror Film Festival. As you would expect with a name like that, Bruce Campbell will indeed be there as part of the four-day event in Rosemont, Il, where they'll also be screening a slate of horror titles curated by Scott Weinberg, horror maven and the resident critic at the just-killed FEARnet. They'll also have panels, and they've got some great ones planned. Overall, it looks like a really cool chance to see a fistful of the best of what indie horror has going on right now with bonuses that simply make the weekend better. From August 21 to August 24, you'll be able to check out some great films. How? Well, here's how they put it: Tickets for All screenings are free to attend...

Team Twitch is very sad that PiFan is over for this year as it was another terrific edition featuring a great lineup. However, not everyone could win come closing night and in the end it was the Austrian western The Dark Valley that took home the top prize. There’s something unappetizing about a genre that derives its comical foundation from viscera in the most absurd, graphic, and repetitive sense. Like its predecessor, “Dead Snow: Red vs. Dead” heaps entrails and endless liters of blood onto the screen as straight-faced actors combat a Nazi zombie uprising. There are those who want nothing more, but the excesses of this sequel are resoundingly empty. But the movie naturally caters to its core audience, which delights in the fun of zombie massacres. It takes minimal nuance or storytelling craft to pull that off: Victims this time around include a woman in a wheelchair, children in a sandbox, and an elderly couple bathing and defecating in the bathroom; the finale involves the Nazi and Soviet undead engaged in a melee straight out of “Braveheart." How can you go wrong? After a brief recap of the earlier entry, narrated like a classic...

In case it isn’t obvious, I’m a pretty big fan of the horror genre, and so I wanted to spotlight some of my most anticipated horror films of 2014. Between the big studio releases and the crop of independent features from some of our favourite directors, 2014 looks to be a great year.
Note: I am not including such movies as Big Bad Wolves or Cheap Thrills, or any other film I had the pleasure of watching at a film festival in 2013. Dead Snow: Red Vs. Dead will be making its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival in January and we have a look at the festival teaser trailer for the upcoming zombie sequel.
Directed once again by Tommy Wirkola, the story continues when “The gruesome Nazi Zombies are back to finish their mission, but our hero is not willing to die. He is gathering his own army to give them a final fight.” The movie stars Vegar Hoel, Stig Frode Henriksen, Martin Starr, Ørjan Gamst, Monica Haas, Jocelyn DeBoer.

Sundance is looming and, this weekend, a trailer for the sequel Dead Snow: Red vs. Dead has landed with the sound of a decapitated head hitting the pavement. The film is making its premiere next month at the festival. The preview is loaded with footage from the first film, Dead Snow , but it's an amusing glimpse at what's to come (looks like someone has a "power arm").
