From the outset of A&E’s two-part, four-hour miniseries based on Stephen King’s 1998 novel Bag of Bones, it was clear that the TV incarnation of King’s ghost story would take on a very different feel from the book. (Some spoilers ahead… ) First of all, the circumstances of Jo Noonan’s (Annabeth Gish) death altered significantly from the opening chapter of the book (in the A&E version, Jo gets hit by a bus in Mike’s presence; in the novel, she collapses in a Rite Aid parking lot while Mike is at home), but these changes were...

Stephen King was a big part of horror television in the 90’s. Networks weren’t really pushing the limits of TV at the time, so Stephen King-based miniseries always stood out as something special. With bigger budgets and usually a movie actor or two, Stephen King miniseries were huge TV events.
There have been a dozen or so Stephen King-related TV projects, and director Mick Garris has been involved in a number of them, having directed The Stand, The Shining, Desperation, and his most recent project, Bag of Bones.
Unfortunately for Bag of Bones, the TV landscape has changed quite a bit and a TV miniseries doesn’t have the same impact it used to. When TV shows on basic cable have movie-like budgets, talented actors, and quality special effects, how does a miniseries stand out? In the case of Bag of Bones, they hired Pierce Brosnan to...

Chicago – A&E’s “Bag of Bones” is a mess. There are elements that work but a source material that doesn’t exactly translate to the mini-series form along with a mediocre script by Matt Venne and generic direction by Mick Garris add up to an experience that’s disjointed and inconsistent. There was a time when a Stephen King mini-series was an event – “The Stand,” “It,” even “Storm of the Century” – but what’s so disappointing about “Bag of Bones” is how inconsequential the whole thing feels.
Television Rating: 2.0/5.0
King’s “Bag of Bones” trods well-worn ground for the author. Once again, the protagonist is a writer, creative block plays a part, and, of course, there must be ghosts. The book has its moments but is also overly familiar for fans of the writer’s best work. What was most interesting about the novel was not the King cliches...

After luring viewers in with period music, the miniseries/movie quickly unsettles them with a series of jarring images accompanied by loud, percussive noises. I don't remember a lot about Stephen King's "Bag of Bones," the 1998 novel which A&E has adapted for a two-part miniseries airing Sunday and Monday night at 9, except for one part. The book's main character is novelist Mike Noonan, who comes down with a crippling case of writer's block after the sudden death of his wife Jo. The early sections of the book go on at length about Mike's sudden inability to do the thing that's made him a living and provided so much fulfillment, and it's every bit as vivid and terrifying as the best sequences in King's...

Fans of Pierce Brosnan and horror novelist Stephen King can tune into the A&E network on Sunday, December 11 to watch the screen adaptation of King’s Bag of Bones. It’s been quite some time since Brosnan has starred in a project specially made for television – his popular Remington Steele series is the last show we can think of. But he’s back to star in the four-hour TV version of King’s best-selling novel, playing the main character, writer and recent widower Mike Noonan. Something very strange is going on at Mike’s summer home in Maine, and his beloved wife is apparently haunting it. The movie will air over two nights, Sunday and Monday, for four hours in total. Brosnan says he’s lucky he got through the shoot, considering that horror flicks “scare the bejesus” out of him. “Part of me kept thinking the same thing...

Mick Garris’ latest gets a site, featurette.
Bag of Bones, the Mick Garris-directed Stephen King adaptation, just recently wrapped shooting, but A&E has already started ramping up promotional material.
There’s a mysterious, simple preview site here, which gives just the slightest look into what’s to come. But then there is this slightly longer behind-the-scene sfeaturette that has, I’m assuming, been playing on A&E. I couldn’t find it on their website, but I found it on YouTube. (Blink and you’ll miss Mick shouting “Action!”)

Depths of Stephen King’s Bag Of Bones Trailer
Do you know what’s creepier than a little girl staring at you under water? Nothing, and that’s why the Bag of Bones trailer is so unnerving. Children are without a doubt the creepiest of people. It’s a good move, since showing the star, Pierce Brosnan, wouldn’t have been frightening at all.
There’s not much to pick out in the trailer. We already know about the creepy water girl, whom I would assume drowned in the lake she’s in. Being a creepy, probably dead girl, she rises from the water and walks down a street. Adding to her aura of creep, her hair still flows as if it were suspended in water. She approaches a dirty window and writes in the grime “Beware the lake”. End of trailer!
Bag of Bones is based on the Stephen King novel of the same.

Stephen King's effective, often praised murder mystery novel Bag of Bones was released in 1998, but it will get new life this December as a four-hour movie that will air on AMC over two nights. Frequent King adapter Mick Garris (TV versions of The Stand and The Shining) directed from a script by Matt Venne. When a YouTube version pops up we'll update, but in the meantime you can head to Deadline. The footage in the short teaser doesn't give us much idea of what to expect from the film -- it's pretty stock modern ghost story stuff. The opening of the featurette is more illuminating,...
