Netflix is keeping Stranger Things star Millie Bobby Brown in its streaming stable for a new kind of starring vehicle in Enola Holmes. An adaptation of the Edgar Award-nominated young adult novel series of author Nancy Springer, the film will see the teen actress trading all things psychokinetic and Eggos for sleuthing in Victorian England, bearing a surname that obviously carries significant weight in the detective trade.
The streaming giant has acquired the global rights to Springer’s The Enola Holmes Mysteries novels from Legendary Entertainment. The film, which adapts the first book, The Case of the Missing Marquess, has already been shot, but is—like everything else—without a post-production timeframe due to the pandemic. Brown stars as the titular character, the tenaciously precocious 16-year-old sister of famed Holmes siblings Sherlock and Mycroft. She will be joined by an array impressive co-stars, most notably another superstar of the Netflix stable,...

At a time when production is shut down, Netflix continues to grow its slate through acquisitions. One day after the streamer paid $20 million world rights to the Ted Melfi-directed Melissa McCarthy-starrer The Starling, Netflix closed a deal with Legendary Entertainment for Enola Holmes, the Harry Bradbeer (Fleabag and Killing Eve) directed drama that stars Stranger Things‘ Millie Bobby Brown. All rights but China are in the deal.
It’s the start of a potential franchise based on the six-book book series The Enola Holmes Mysteries. Jack Thorne (Harry Potter and the Cursed Child) adapted it. With its stock soaring, Netflix’s challenge is to not run out of new product.
Pic’s produced by Legendary’s Mary Parent, Alex Garcia and Ali Mendes, along with Millie Bobby Brown and Paige Brown through their Pcma Productions shingle. Exec producers are Joshua Grode, Michael Dreyer and Harry Bradbeer.
Brown, who worked with Legendary on Godzilla: King of the Monsters, stars alongside Sam Claflin, Adeel Akhtar, Fiona Shaw, Frances de la Tour, Louis Partridge, Burn Gorman, Susan Wokoma, Henry Cavill and Helena Bonham Carter.
Pic tells story of Sherlock and Mycroft Holmes’ rebellious teen sister Enola, a gifted super-sleuth in her own right who often outsmarts her brilliant siblings. When her mother mysteriously disappears on her 16th birthday, Enola seeks help from her older brothers. But soon realizing they’re less interested in solving the case than in packing her off to finishing school, Enola does the only thing a smart, resourceful and fearless young 1880s woman can do… she runs away to London to find her. Meeting a cast of memorable characters along the way, Enola’s caught in the middle of a conspiracy that could alter the course of political history.

Spike Lee is set to direct a big-screen adaptation of Ron Wimberly’s 2012 graphic novel, “Prince of Cats,” for Legendary Entertainment. Described as “the B-side to Shakespeare’s ‘Romeo and Juliet’,” the story focuses on Tybalt, the son of Lady Capulet’s brother, Juliet’s short-tempered cousin, Romeo’s rival, and a character from Shakespeare’s tragedy.
Lee confirmed the project with IndieWire.
Set in the 1980s, in “Da People’s Republic of Brooklyn,” Lee’s favorite domain, the official synopsis for the novel reads: “‘Prince of Cats’ is played at an eighties block party in a NY where underground sword dueling blossomed alongside hip-hop, punk, disco and no wave. After being out of print for four years, the novel was re-worked and re-released in 2016.

Legendary Pictures has tapped Alex Ross Perry to write and direct a new film adaptation of the Stephen King short story “Rest Stop,” Variety is reporting. The short story follows an author who flees the scene after overhearing and breaking up a domestic spat at a rest stop. Initially published in a 2003 issue of Esquire, “Rest Stop” won the National Magazine Award for Fiction in 2004. It also appears in King’s 2008 story collection “Just After Sunset.”
According to Variety, the film will be a cat-and-mouse thriller following the twisted journey of two women after an encounter at a rest stop. If that is the case, Perry’s script will evidently diverge from the source material in some ways, including swapping the genders of the main character and focusing on two characters instead of one.

Welcome to Ryme City. Home of pocket monsters, neon-lit streets, and an adorable little detective by the name of Pikachu.
That is, in a nutshell, the basic set-up for director Rob Letterman’s upcoming Detective Pikachu, which will see the titular video game icon team up with Tim Goodman, a jaded Pokémon trainer searching for his missing father.
He’s also the only one in Ryme City who can understand Pikachu, and therein lies a hook – a spark – that will no doubt define Detective Pikachu and its heartfelt story. And with early reactions already proving to be extremely positive, and box office projections looking pretty rosy, attention is starting to turn towards what comes next. A sequel? A spinoff? An entire cinematic universe?
Well, Legendary Entertainment hasn’t officially announced anything just yet, but producer Ali Mendes recently spoke with IGN and teased that all of the above are possible.

Legendary has closed a deal for Harry Bradbeer to direct “Enola Holmes” starring Millie Bobby Brown, sources tell Variety. Insiders also say Jack Thorne will adapt the script, which is based on the Nancy Springer book series “The Enola Holmes Mysteries.”
Brown will also produce through her Pcma Productions banner.
The book series began with the 2006 title “The Case of the Missing Marquess” and covered six novels, revolving around mysteries investigated by Sherlock and Mycroft Holmes’ much younger sister, Enola.
Alex Garcia and Ali Mendes will oversee the project for Legendary.
Legendary and Brown have built a strong relationship after she was tapped to star in “Godzilla: King of Monsters,” and the studio was quick to attach her to star in “Enola Holmes” after she had wrapped filming on that sequel. The plan is to shoot the film this summer after Brown finishes production on “Godzilla vs. Kong.”
