7/10
Good, but not great

Warning: Spoilers
I watched this film late last night, and while it held my attention, I did not find it nearly as enjoyable as many of the other horror films of the era (Bride of Frankenstein, Dracula, etc.). First of all, the comic relief provided by Glenda Farrell seemed out of place, serving only to lessen the effectiveness of the film. Fay Wray's part was largely underdeveloped, and she appeared only in the last half of the movie.

(possible spoiler ahead)

Nonetheless, this movie had its moments, especially the part where Fay Wray slaps off Lionel Atwill's wax face! The creepy storyline also added to my enjoyment. Therefore, I give this movie 7 out of 10.
