A bad movie, partially redeemed
11 August 1999
A bad movie, partially redeemed by Hepburn's usual offhand genius. It deals clumsily with the computerization of a TV network's research department. Nobody who is sophisticated enough to be reading this web site will quite grasp the horror with which putatively intelligent people face the installation of an exceedingly primitive 1950's parody of a computer. Nor will the caricature of ice-age office romances much amuse a contemporary audience. Both Tracy and Hepburn are too old for this romance; but Hepburn is so good that she almost makes one forget this; Tracy is just the Tracy of his last few films, bemusedly wandering through a role that seems to bore him. In fairness to Tracy, this is a role that should have bored him.
