Uneven sequel to 'At Midnight I'll Steal Your Soul'.

'This Night I'll Possess Your Corpse' is the sequel to Jose Mojica Marins (a.k.a. Coffin Joe)'s oddball classic 'At Midnight I'll Steal Your Soul'. I strongly suggest you don't watch it if you haven't seen the first movie, not just because it continues on directly, but because it assumes you're familiar with the Coffin Joe character, who is very difficult to explain. If you haven't seen Coffin Joe before, this rambling movie will mystify, and possibly even bore you. Joe gives lots of speeches imparting his philosophy, too many really. There's too much talking and not enough horror, and the movie could have easily lost 15-20 minutes. Once again Joe is looking for a woman who is "pure" enough to bear him a son. This time around he has a hunchbacked assistant, and this gives the movie a bit of an 'Awful Dr. Orloff' feel. I can't say I enjoyed it half as much as '...Midnight...', it's just too uneven and self-indulgent, but it has its moments, especially the extraordinary colour sequence of hell, which is worth sitting though the whole movie to see. It's just a pity that the rest of it wasn't as inspired.
