Waste of talents.
7 October 2000
I am a fan of Ms. Harris and Mr. Karyo, in their varied careers. This film was screened in a local art house. I had never heard of it, so I decided I had to see it. I now know why I had never heard of it. Bad writing, bad editing, bad cinematography. It reminded me of the tawdry films in the later careers of Bette Davis and Judy Garland. (Actually, black and white film made those films intrinsically more intriguing and moody.) The big issues of aging and loss and new relationships were lost in the garble. Given the potential of what could have been done with the cast and the setting of Tuscany, I was extremely frustrated by the film. I could not even recommend that someone rent it, if it were available on video.
