Chercheurs d'or (1996– )
French version of part of a Jack London novel
5 November 2002
This film takes many annoying liberties with the novel, most notably making the hero come from France instead of San Francisco. Its musical score is remarkably cheesy, making it seem like a kid's movie made in the 70's. But the locations and what's left of London's storytelling make it watchable. And who was the gorgeous actress who played the dance-hall singer? I couldn't figure it out from the credits. From the montage at the beginning, it seemed like this was part of a French miniseries, where they showed scenes from some of the other episodes of the book that would have been more interesting than this one.
