The Legend of the Jersey Devil is a fascinating piece of folklore/legend/myth. Sightings began in the 18th century and continued up until 1993. The sightings are far-reaching and varied in experience.
None of this was addressed in this movie.
One important fact we DID learn from this experience: if a movie has no budget to promote itself AT ALL, there's a reason for it, and you should steer clear of it.
We hyped this movie to so many of our friends and Pinelands groups to which we belong...as we were leaving the theater, my husband and I were making mental notes of all the people we needed to call and stop them from paying money to see this piece of cinematic garbage passing itself off as a movie.
IN SHORT: The acting is horrendous. The script is laughable. And the errors in fact are hilarious. One scene shows the investigator leaving Trenton and traveling to the Pine Barrens to begin her investigation. There is an aerial shot of her car crossing a huge body of water over a low bridge....on her way from Trenton to the Pine Barrens? What route did she take? The Great Circle Route around the Pole?
Then there is the matter of the murder that sets the story in motion...it happens one day, the investigator is assigned the next, she leaves the day after THAT...and when she gets there, two rubes from the Park Service are STILL at the site with the body, as if THEY just got there...wouldn't some REAL police be involved by now?
But the most heinous crime that is committed is by the film makers and with the legend itself. The 13th Child is the legend of Mrs. Leeds of Leeds Point and HER 13th child..and how she cast the child into the cellar because she just couldn't deal with another child. That child escaped and THAT is the birth of the Legend. In all my research I have NEVER heard the theory stated in the movie.
