good for cultural aesthetics
15 October 2004
This film has an average story with an overplayed symbol of the beached whale. And it does have a tendency to drag a little too much. But that's not to say the film is terrible. If you don't know much about Japan, you might not care much one way or the other for the film. But if you have spent an extensive amount of time here, you will likely laugh uncontrollably. The culture of Japan is put under a microscope in this one as the director seems to be taking subtle potshots at all the unique weirdness found here. The mafia boss' role in this movie is an exceptional addition and played comically by an actor who puts it into a nice perspective if a little unreal.
