The Faker (1929)
Seems to be a lost movie
28 May 2005
In a recent trip to the Library of Congress I got to check out the one clip that seems to exist from this film. It was about 3-4 minutes long and shows the characters sitting at a séance that is being prepared by Warner Oland's character. Oland's face is seen in a jump cut at the beginning and that's it. Quite a bit of silly typical 20's comedy from these socialite characters. Seems like the movie was a light comedy-drama, though, there may have been some spooky moments in the séance scenes. For what it's worth, the safety print clip looked gorgeous. The plot, I believe, concerns Oland playing a phony mystic named Hadrian who swindles socialites.
