Darkness (2002)
"Darkness is very wise."

Like most of their products, Dimension bought this film and sat on it. Two years later, when they actually release it they chop the hell out of it to get a PG-13. Sadly, that is the version I saw. And it was not good. The problem with Darkness is that it's just not scary. It tries too hard. The camera work was giving me a headache and it's filled with clichés (much of which are borrowed from Amityville and The Shining). It's not a completely unoriginal movie, but with all the ghost stories I've seen lately, it's severely lacking in the creep department. The best part of the film comes from it's offbeat ending, but it could have been completely avoided. In James Bond fashion the villain tells Anna Paquin every detail of his plan and she could easily stop the Darkness from coming. But what does she do? She helps it. I couldn't believe the stupidity I was witnessing. Now do I blame the character or the writer? It surprises me very much that the producer credit belongs to Brian Yuzna. If you rented this movie for that reason, you were probably expecting a totally different film.
