The lighter side of bank robbery, a fun flick
3 October 2006
Grimm (Bill Murrary) has planned a surefire bank robbery with two friends. One is his girlfriend, Phyllis (Geena Davis) and the other is a loyal bud named Loomis (Randy Quaid). The robbery, involving clown outfits and costume changes, goes off fabulously. However, a honked horn starts the trio on a misadventure getaway. As they try to travel to the airport so that they can complete their plan of hiding out in Martinique, they encounter trouble. Trouble in the forms of cabbies that don't speak English, con artists, the mob, and the bus driver from hell. Will they be able to escape? This is a cute movie that shows NYC can be more treacherous than bank robbery! Murray and Quaid are terrific and Davis shows off her loveliness and smarts in a big way. The plot is the proverbial Murphy's law magnified 100 times. If you need a break from the mundane 9 to 5, pop in this film, kick up your heels, and laugh. And laugh.
