Evening (2007)

Performances save questionable writing
8 August 2007
What kept me watching "Evening" was the actors' performances. The script was a tad messy and in places poorly done, but thanks to Claire Danes, Vanessa Redgrave, and all the other talented thespians in this film, I did not walk out of the theater groaning.

Kudos to Claire Danes, who has become one of my favorite actresses, for giving her part as the younger Ann some soul. I also loved Vanessa Redgrave in this, but then again, it's hard to go wrong with her.

I was, however, disappointed with how little screen time Meryl Streep got. I really like her a lot, and I thought it was kind of a waste that she only got five minutes or so. But, that's Hollywood, I guess.

The character I loved most in this movie was Lila's brother Buddy. I absolutely adored him and was sad when he departed from the movie.

What I don't understand is why everyone was in love with Harris, Patrick Wilson's character. He didn't do much with the role that had little meat to it to begin with. I mean, it would have been a smidgeon more understandable if he was attractive, but I, at least, don't find him so.

Evening is not worthy or Oscars or awards, but it is an OK movie that I would go see again.
