Review of Night Watch

Night Watch (2004)
9/10
Imagination and Heart
22 August 2007
Pick any five minutes of this little gem of a film and you'll find more imagination and heart than in the full length of most overblown effects heavy 'horror' movies. From the opening scenes of the battle between the opposing forces of 'Others', the Dark and the Light, the scenes in the witches house and the realisation that as with most things, people and events aren't as polarised as they might first appear; as in 'real' life we are sifting through shades of grey. We see vampires and were-beings (if I had to pick a flaw I would have loved to see more of those). The Dark Others are controlled (licensed) by the Light and 'sting' operations using humans as live bait are common. The effects are fantastic, the characters interesting and involving and the heart of the story shows how one stray word or action can determine your fate
