Jodhaa Akbar (2008)
1/10
Terrible Movie - very biased, confusing, unrealistic and anti-climatic

Jodha Akbar is definitely a disappointment. I expected a lot more from Ashutosh Gowarikar because of his excellent movie-making history. Right from the get-go you are bombarded with numerous names, and various cut scenes to all over India leaving the viewer very confused. I don't want to give the plot away, but you'll notice a lot of inconsistencies in character with Akbar from childhood to adulthood. Also, you'll notice inconsistencies with the usage of language, jumping back and forth from Hindi to Urdu. Also there is definitely a bias when it comes to the religious aspect of the film: It shows that the Mughal empire was very negative about the marriage of Jodha (which is believable), but the Hindu Rajputs are extremely happy about the whole situation, which seemed very unrealistic. This movie was also very anti-climatic. Every miscommunication, every evil deed, every misunderstanding was addressed and cleared up right away, making it seem like all the conflict was very forced in the story, and really unnecessary. I'm surprised this movie has such a high rating. I will, however, praise the cinematography, which I think Ashu focused on more hoping he would create and epic film, but sadly failed. I really look forward to his next film, because I haven't given up on him.
