Being a fan of crank 1, I was excited for this. The movie started out great, and half way through I actually thought it surpassed the first. But the "videogame'ish" effects became abused and stale.
I enjoyed the filming aspect, with a large use of fisheye lenses and digital effects layering over the raw footage. It has a unique look and feel compared to other action flicks.
The movie became stale sooner that I was hoping. And the ending, well don't get me started.
I'll give it a 6 since it's much better than some movie's that hit the screen... but even a 6 is pushing it. Hold off on this one until you can rent it for $4.00 on DVD/blu-ray.
*SPOILER ALERT* The scene where chev turns into a godzilla type human monster took the whole effect WAY to far, and from that point I lost interest in the film.
