As far as I can tell, the only things that this film has in common with the original Midnight Run is, there are characters named Jack Walsh, Eddie Moscone and Marvin Dorfler and there are some plot about Jack Walsh bringing criminals to prison. Otherwise, no similarity was attempted in the making of this picture.
Jack Walsh is a complete moron, so is Dorfler and Moscone. The humor of Jack being outsmarted by the alleged criminals, played badly as both a loving and also bickering couple by Cathy Moriarty and Jeffrey Tambor, is pretty lame.
It's amazing that there were two more movies mad named Midnight something or other based on what is on screen here.
Not for a second is there a moment where this is either funny or smart like the original was. Chris McDonald can be quite good, but he is incredibly miscast here. Dan Hedaya as Moscone is basically here to be a clown and Marvin Dorfler, played by multiple time screen villain, Ed O'Ross is completely tapped of any edge.
Please do not tamper with classics. All you gain is critics.
