Mary Magdalene (2000 TV Movie)

Mary Magdalene moved me.

Warning: Spoilers
I can not speak to the historical or biblical accuracy of this portrayal of Mary Magdalene, but I thoroughly enjoyed it and was spiritually moved by this drama. I recognized some dialog and scenes as straight from the gospels and thought the speculative fleshing out of the story as true to the spirit of the Gospel. As a therapist who has worked with sexual assault victims I think this can be tremendously powerful for healing as well as spiritually uplifting.

I love the quote given by John the Baptist: "In the end, no matter what the question is, He is the only answer." And also, when Jesus said when Mary was washing his feet with her tears: "Love is stronger than death and every sin."

I am not familiar with these actors but they were excellent, particularly Maria Grazia Cucinotta and Benjamin Sadler's John the Baptist. I do agree with another reviewer that Danny Quinn could have played Jesus more dynamically, especially early in the film, but he did portray a sweetness and compassion that was true to my own view of the Son of God, and his smile and scene with Mary in the rich man's home was very well acted. I wish I knew more about the makers and production company of this 4 DVD set. I found it in a sale bin--so glad I have it. Did not expect to be so powerfully moved!
