Relentless
1 May 2011
As a bullied young girl blossoms into womanhood, she discovers she's a mutant with a robot claw. She's then whisked away to a school for mutants who teach her to exact revenge on the mortals who made her life a living hell.

I chose to summarize my review of this bizarre Asian variation of X-Men with the word "relentless," which perfectly summarizes the film -- though that's not necessarily a negative thing depending upon one's tolerance for non-stop visual assaults of gore, depravity and toilet humor.

Another reviewer compared it to early Peter Jackson, but more accurately it's early Peter Jackson meets The Power Rangers. The action is nonstop practically from beginning to end, the soundtrack wails, the characters/acting are all totally over the top and the visuals are stunning (both in composition and content). I dunno what kind of a budget the movie had, but it looks surprisingly slick and glossy.

Personally I didn't like the film, but I can't in good conscience give it a bad review cuz I'm not a fan of Asian cinema in general. For what it is, the movie is well above average and pretty unique. If you've got a strong stomach and like REALLY demented Japanese movies, chances are you'll love this oddity.
