I was not expecting to be as engrossed with this documentary as I was. Davies is a superb narrator, and the acting in the film by the actors was unexpectedly good.
I was not aware of all the issues that surrounded the composition of this version of the Bible, and I was really taken by surprise by several aspects, as I was with the total irony of the relationship between King James and Queen Elizabeth, knowing that she had his Mother imprisoned; having James taken from her permanently as a baby; then then having her beheaded. I was surprised by this man's piety and straight-forward tactics, that seem overly harsh in one sense, yet on the other hand, with all the present day corruption, it was indeed necessary.
The things I wish were added to this documentary are: More history of the scholars who worked on the book; The relationships they developed with one another; What followed in their lives after the completion; and more details on King Jame's life before, during, and after the completion. Regardless, this was wonderful despite that.
Rarely do I ever purchase documentaries, but after seeing this, I had to have a copy of my own. I would encourage anyone to watch this.
