*Spoiler/plot- 2004, Two Navajo tribal cops Joe Leaphorn and Jim Chee delve into the netherworld of illegal archaeological excavations, purloined clay pots artifacts, and slain pot-hunters set against a backdrop of Navajo witches, spirits and lore. This story includes an eccentric rancher and senator, Harrison Houk and legendary Christian preacher, Slick Nakai.
*Special Stars- Wes Studi, Adam Beach, Graham Greene, Peter Fonda. Dir: Chris Eyre
*Theme- One man's artifacts are another man's family.
*Based on- Tony Hillerman's novel
*Trivia/location/goofs- Shot in the Navajo 'Four Corners' region. Originally a PBS project.
*Emotion- A balanced enjoyable scenic film with enough dramatic intrigue and mystery to keep you interested. It is well cast and acted throughout with a nice balance of humor to move the plot along without any heavy political preaching. Any political matters are disarmed with sarcastic humor sunk by the Native American actors. I have an interest in Archaeology and found this story a refreshing view of an alarming trend in the Southwest USA with wider ethical implications.
