Dexter: Just Let Go (2011)
Season 6, Episode 6

Warning: Spoilers
don't get me wrong, I love this show, but tonight's episode treated the audience in a way that it normally doesn't. This show always treats us like it knows we're smart enough to figure things out and gives us thought provoking themes to contemplate. With this episode though it felt like we were walked through some overstate points, having them spelled out in strong black and white repeatedly. eg The "dog didn't bark" point so we wouldn't miss that it was a familiar face who shot brother Sam. We get spoon fed that point 3-4 times just in case we were super thick. Deb and Quinn's relationship meltdown was also labored and Deb's thought process was hammered home with a mallet as she actually told us straight to camera almost. I hope it's just a writer/director glitch and not a dumbing down of the show to get a bigger dumber audience. there's plenty of shows that cater to the mental age of 8 and I hope we're not going to lose our favorite show to that level. Dexter's always been about subtlety. I see this episode's writer has only done this one episode. maybe don't get him in to do any more would be a good idea.
