Character study of grown siblings
26 November 2012
This film is better than most reviewers give it credit for. I caught it on cable and the synopsis given there was incorrect (about heroine addicts??). As the story unfolds, you see how two sisters have crafted their individual adulthoods according to different patterns -- and how their shared histories will forever keep them connected, whether they like it or not. While the examination of their respective lives and psyche could have shown more depth at times, the slow unraveling and reveal of their childhood seemed very accurate. Some of the peripheral characters (i.e. husband) could have benefited from more dimension, but the story wasn't really about him. This is a subtle film, about complicated relationships -- it doesn't explode, race, or create loud noises, its more tender.
