Scary early horror movie from one of the best

This is probably one of Segundo de Chomón's finest works. Even if he worked his whole career in France, he can still be considered one of the most significant Spanish-born directors of the last 125 years. Here, he managed to create a truly spooky piece of art. We see a group of 3, two men, one woman, walking alongside a river and spotting a deserted house. Curiously they go inside and we already know this is not gonna end well, when the house gives us a weird that curdles our blood.

Inside, one strange ghost-like creature appears after the other, a table is lying itself, but the trio don't seem to be worried. No intention of running outside the house into safety. instead they keep eating until the unknown presence makes all furniture disappear. The film closes with the presence of another monster that actually resembles quite a bit the one from de Chomon's fellow Spanish-speaking director Guilermo del Toro in "El laberinto del fauno" almost 100 years later. I wonder if this at least partially inspired him. Anyway, I recommend this film. It's definitely one of the better choices to watch from the first 25 years of movie existence.
