" The Enchanting Marguerite Clark As Snow White "
2 January 2014
Warning: Spoilers
For Silent Film enthusiasts this once considered lost film is a real treasure. What really makes the film special is petite Marguerite Clark's performance as Snow White. A superb actress of stage and early silent screen, now sadly forgotten as most of her films are now lost. Playing Snow White on stage she delightfully brings the character to life for the Famous Players screen version. If you are expecting the story to resemble the popular Disney film, than you will be disappointed, but for those who want to see a early adaptation of the Grimm Brothers fairy tale, you may become quite enchanted with this delightful film. Paramount who distributed Famous Players productions announced the film as a special Christmas attraction for 1916. The film opens with an enchanting scene of Santa Claus setting a collection of dolls on a table while a small child sneaks a peek at the mystical character. He leaves and the dolls come to life in the form of the real players of the story Snow White. The story sticks pretty close to the original fairy tale with pleasing performances given by all the actors. The cinematography is beautiful and the film is in remarkably good condition. Thank goodness it was found and restored so future generations can rediscover an important chapter of silent film history. This film remains a perfect surviving example of the lovely and very talented actress Marguerite Clark.
