When one thinks of Erotic films the first thing that comes to mind is Voluptuous exposure with a farce story line with the former having predominance. This is a rule for the adolescent majority. However this film is an exception. This film has sophistication and culture that is designed to mystify the viewer in a positive manner about the strong sensual traditions of India that go hand in hand with the plot of the film. The film starts with the female lead a photographer (Kim Delaney) coming home from an assignment in India to which she wants to explore its traditions and culture for western interest and fascination to be amazed at its cultural richness. However in an innocent manner she gets drawn in to a cult that worships the frightening Goddess Kali from where she acts strangely in a sexual manner with mystical influence and feel that it leads to confrontation with her close associates such as her boyfriend (Chris Sarandon) and only one man understands a doctor played by the remarkable Ben Cross that leads to an auspicious ending for both of them. All the actors are well cast, the chemistry between Sarandon and Delaney is perfect. The music is good. The acting speaks louder then words due to the spiritual eroticism that make the basic storyline powerful. It also shows respect to a different tradition that it is fascinated by due to its exoticism with love over coming not battling anger that we can all relate to in a liberating time.
