It has been a while since the episode aired I know, but I am now just watching it & had a few thoughts. Beth "needed" medical care & then she had to "work off what she owed." I believe this is an intentional reference to all of us who are enslaved for our survival. How many hours do we work just to survive? Whether we need life-saving care or meds to control chronic illnesses, we work long hours to pay for what is free in other countries, the freedom to be well. I was recently diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis & will need medicines that I have been warmed will cost between $15k - $20k per year. I NEED them to prevent my body from destroying my joints. So, in this fictional post-apocalyptic world, some things haven't changed. We too are enslaved & we "all have a job to do" just to survive. Overall this isn't the best episode of the series, but it is certainly thought- provoking.
