I went to watch this movie with my friends, today. The movie felt... simply empty. There was nothing that impressed me, beyond that, there was nothing surprising. Actually it is hard to say that there was a story.
I really don't require action to call a movie good, a good movie can also consist of dialogues, which is the case in this movie. The problem is, that the dialogues don't mean much. All the talking doesn't give you any material that you can consider a story.
I have to admit, the acting was good, but this would be expect from Al Pacino and Holly Hunter, right?
Also, I read in the IMDb-Trivia that the original plot was very different. First of all, Manglehorn was supposed to be an ex- criminal, there would have been a massacre at Dawn's Bank and they would have explained Manglehorn's back story. Also there would have been a big earthquake, bringing Clara forth. But all that stuff was edited out. In my opinion, they edited out everything that would have made sense. As I said, I don't think action is required for a movie to be fun, but the way Manglehorn is now, is simply boring, and again, EMPTY.
