How I Met Your Mother: Knight Vision (2013)
Season 9, Episode 6
5/10
Another poor episode
29 December 2015
Warning: Spoilers
I find myself losing any investment in the story as the season progresses. The episodes seem to lack an emotional weight at this point in the story, and although "Knight Vision" still does not deliver the goods, there are some fine elements at play here.

The best aspect of this episode is Marshall's hesitance in telling Lily that he accepted his judgeship. There is a bit of force, and threat to this aspect of the episode. We can identify with Marshall, and the fear that their relationship may take yet another tumble with his latest secrecy. Also Sherri Shepherd is a great element of these episodes as Daphne.

Robin and Barney prepare for their wedding, and their chances of getting married are jeopardized when the Reverend discovers their deceit. As someone who finds little to enjoy in their relationship now (seeing as how annoying Robin really is), this aspect was fairly boring. This episode does commit a major sin: taking death as a bit of a joke. Barney and Robin sort of end up 'killing' the reverend, and have no sense of guilt about it whatsoever. This idea of death being taken comedically rarely works (it worked superbly in The Simpsons's "Homer's Enemy") but it requires an expert level of writing. This crew unfortunately are not apt enough to deal with this matter.

Ted's story is serviceable and the Knight, who is initially very annoying, ultimately brings out a few good laughs. The show thinks that by further holding back Cristin Milioti that they are doing good to the show....but they really aren't.

I hate to say this, but I wonder if 'I chose poorly' when deciding to give this show a chance. It has rarely been consistently great in quality since the second season. Unfortunately, it now feels like an age ago.
