How I Met Your Mother: Slapsgiving (2007)
Season 3, Episode 9

Warning: Spoilers
Another quality episode of HIMYM, not quite as good as "Spoiler Alert" in my opinion, but still very strong. The slap bet between Marshall and Barney from season 2 is continued while Ted and Robin confront the issue that going back to being friends after a breakup is not as easy as they have pretended in presence of the group. Both story lines are set to the theme of Thanksgiving, similarly to "Belly full of Turkey" in season 1.

I find it realistic that there are still some unresolved issues between Ted and Robin and it's good to finally see them being addressed. We learn that they haven't really been alone together since the breakup and that Ted is uncomfortable around her. I have to say though that it was a little bit suspicious of him to save one of these situations by claiming Pierce Brosnan was his "favorite of all the Bonds". Ted clearly strikes my as the kind of guy who would only accept Sean Connery as the "real" James Bond. He likes old stuff. Plus, the only people who would prefer Pierce Brosnan are the ones who grew up with him playing James Bond, whose first Bond movie experience was GoldenEye (I'm one of them, by the way). Ted was already 18 when GoldenEye came out, so ... I digress.

Ted's reaction to Bob's age was funny and relatable. The slap bet story line was funny as well. When Barney tried to rub his assumed triumph in Marshall's face, he briefly reverted to that high-pitched voice that was identified as one of his annoying habits in the previous episode. I'm not sure if it was done purposely, but HIMYM is always good with continuity details like that. Lily's habit of chewing very loudly, however, was dropped, although the turkey dinner provided a good opportunity.
