9/10
Must See Jean
12 March 2016
Warning: Spoilers
The real reason to watch this movie is Jean Harlow ( Cassie). What is interesting is this may be the one movie where her acting is head and shoulders above anyone else. This is number 20 on the Harlow list, so I know Jean Movies quite well. In other films she is overshadowed by her Co Stars ( Gable, Stewart, Powell, and Cagney to name a few). She is also placed with better actresses ( and more then hold their own in the Looks department Loretta Young, Clara Bow course my favorite Myrna Loy) Spoilers Ahead. What I like about Cassie is she not only the most decent person in the movie, but she is the only one who refuses to settle for less. Watch the scene where she snacks the boss who sexually harassed her, she also ends up on top unlike her friends Dot ( Marie Provost) who marries the chauffeur( she would have married 'Jack The Ripper' if it meant no more envelopes, or worse, Gladys ( Mae Clarke) who committed suicide. Even her mom and the person she ended up with Jerry spent their entire lives settling for less in life ( he was drinking his life away being married to Natalie Moorhead, and only in the final scene where he shows her the paper where he dumped her for someone else ( Cassie) does he show backbone. If this movie was not so rare I would start with it, for those who want to know who Jean Harlow was. But since it is, try Libeled Lady ( even though Powell and Loy dominate it). Why? It is her best movie. This movie I Will give 9/10 Stars. I deduct a star for the very unappealing Mae Clarke.
