A fabulous sequence, directed by Yakima Canutt, in which Mordecai Jones wrecks a whole town plus a brand new convertible, is the highlight of this otherwise somewhat talky production. George C. Scott as Mordecai, grotesquely made up, delivers a half-audible monologue that is, alas, not a tenth as amusing as the script writer obviously thinks it is. Fortunately, the acting of the rest of the players is very attractive, particularly the work of Michael Sarrazin, Sue Lyon, Harry Morgan and Slim Pickens. Director Irvin Kershner's composition and handling are not without interest, the music score is very pleasant, and the color photography occasionally shows touches of Charles Lang's usual brilliance.
Although overall the movie is a bit disappointing – it could be wondrously improved by intelligent editing – it's still worth seeing. British release title: "One Born Every Minute".
