This episode moves WD forwards to exciting new places it's never been before. Not only does the group meet another group that isn't hostile to them, but also for the first time it looks like at some point there will be trade between groups - probably not in this season, but at some point. And trade of course is one big step towards rebuilding civilisation.
This episode has other things in mind though and there are some twists and shocking moments where it does not play out how you'd expect, including an unexpected graphic fight scene. It's just a really strong, fascinating episode that has suddenly given Season 6 a direction. Even though it's mostly setup, there's a lot of tension. I think it's odd how hastily Rick and Daryl accepted the deal to kill Negan considering how little they know, but eh. It's an excellent episode that means the rest of the season will likely be gripping.
