An Honest Review
4 December 2016
This is one of those movies that kinda gets you into trouble.

Listen honey, I am sure you'll agree that it's not at all my fault. You see, I started cleaning, look at the bathroom, it's clean...and then "White Men Can't Jump" came on and...well...I just watched "White Men Can't Jump." I've seen the exact same thing happen to you when one of your chick flicks came on...just because it's a guy film doesn't mean the same rules don't apply.

Yeah, it's not a good movie. It's kind of like the "Point Break" of sports films. Not a cinema classic, but a movie that is directly tailored to straight males. We can't not watch it and we can't not enjoy it.

It is the masculine equivalent of a chick flick.

And it does say a few things about race too. I mean, take the opening scene, it's true. African Americans that don't have a lot of exposure to us white people don't understand that we'll laugh and not instantly get offended at jokes at our expense and they really don't know how to handle it when we make fun of ourselves.

Even now I get the whole "don't put yourself down like that, brother." Why? It's funny.

So that whole interchange is pretty true to form. It explains the cultural divide and in a movie that's really just a guy flick and nothing more.

But ultimately...you got yourself a guy flick. One of those films we can't help but watch even though we know, in our heart of hearts, that it is just as bad as most chick flicks.
