The Walking Dead: Time for After (2017)
Season 8, Episode 7
Nonsensical
4 December 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Rick's capture at the Garbage Land is now officially the most stupid Walking Dead plot ever. Not only were his actions to walk right into enemy territory alone insane, especially when the Saviors were losing the war already, but this time the Garbage People's actions are insane as well. Why do they suddenly get a walker with a spiked helmet out to attack Rick? Why do they just stand there like zombies as Rick fights back with his hands tied up? How the hell did the Garbage Leader let Rick overpower her? This whole thing is clearly a laughably contrived attempt to throw in a walker fight. Back when the Walking Dead was good, it didn't need a contrived scene in a Garbage Land to set up a great walker fight. And this action scene sucked anyway.

The assault on the Saviors is also pretty nonsensical. What's the point of risking lives on an unnecessary attack when you're winning anyway? And the character beats make no sense either, why does specifically Rosita decide she can't go ahead with it for example? We get no real insight into the change she is going through as a character that makes her pull out. It's also hard to understand what the plan actually is until it's done, which takes out any tension it could have had.

This episode does have a strength though, and that's Eugene and to a lesser extent Dwight. You can see Eugene grappling between his survival instincts which tell him to stick with Negan and his loyalty to Rick. We know he's keeping his options open as he hasn't turned Dwight in. This is further complicated by the girl who tells him he could have changed the Saviors for the better, but he didn't. When Negan treats Eugene as his equal, it becomes clear that Eugene could easily go either way.
