THEY CALLED HIM VERITAS is a spaghetti western made with a lightness of touch that seems to be having fun spoof the conventions of the genre while at the same time coming across as very typical in terms of genre tropes and ideas. The exercise is very much focused on light comedy throughout, with barely a plot in sight, just a gang of four cowboys living life to the full. Genre regular Mark Damon stars amid the usual hangings, gunslinger showdowns, bar-room brawls, prostitutes, and more besides. I found the whole experience just a little too lightweight, leaving it without merit at times.
