In "Belonging", Cordelia gets an acting job in a commercial but is forced to be scantily clad by the belittling director. A portal opens inside the karaoke bar, releasing a demon out into LA. Lorne hires the gang to get rid of it. But the gang is cracking a bit at the scenes; Wesley is depressed because of his father's disappointment in him. Gunn is AWOL as his old crew is battling vampires, a member being killed in the process. His crew feels as if he's abandoned them for a better life. Cordelia has a vision of a woman being sucked into a portal, similar to the one that released the demon. The only problem is that this happened 5 years ago. Cordelia reads from an ancient book, opening a portal that brings Lorne's cousin to LA. He helps the gang defeat the demon and Cordy sends him back via the book. Only this time, the book transports Cordelia, as well.
As we approach the end of the season, this episode appears to be setting up the plot lines that will need be watched. Gunn's internal struggle between helping his old neighborhood and being part of the gang is hitting a breaking point. He must decide sooner rather than later. Cordy appears to have been transported either back in time or to some more primitive dimension. I'm interested to see where this leads. All in all, not a fantastic episode but it brings up some storylines that should make for good episodes ahead.
