Howling VI: The Freaks (1991 Video)
8/10
Very Enjoyable Hammer Horror Clone !
5 April 2018
Number six in a long running series and I had never seen any of the Howling flicks, so this was watched on a charity shop DVD find with absolutely no expectations of any kind. The story's setting small town remote and quiet was straight from Hammers Vampire Circus as was the band of freaks and the deadly vampires hidden within. Hammer had a crack at the wolf man but that Oliver Reed opera is one of there more tiresome offerings. This is so much better, perhaps its the western setting that puts people off, as this kind of pantomime defiantly suits the Gothic atmosphere. The Nosferatu like king vampire is a little unusual but that worked fine i thought. With perfect B movie casting and played enthusiastically by the little known cast i thought this little horror comic quiet classic and with my love of unpretentious entertaining B movies this was a very pleasing and unexpected bulls eye.
