Death Wish II (1982)
7/10
The most gritty, grimy & savage of the excellent Franchise!!!

I love the Death wish franchise i really do & have watched them all so many times it's crazy!!! Also, Paul Kersey is my favourite movie character ever. So you know i love these crazy Vigilante Thrillers, now part 2 is EASILY the most disturbing & sickest of the franchise, we have the vile over-long rape scene that is horrible but kind of Necessary in a way, i can see that this scene is shocking, as if to show us why this gang of scum needs to be exterminated by Kersey!!! I won't go on about the plot or story but let's just say Bronson is out for revenge & hunts this gang of sick rapists down in the very gritty & grimy night time streets of los Angeles. This flick oozes darkness & menace, Bronson is very good as always as the silent avenger but most of the rest of the cast are pretty Cheesy, especially his Bronson's then wife, Jill Ireland but IT'S ok because those side characters are not my focus, nope I'm watching "Bronson" do his violent Action stuff & thats all i want to concentrate on.

Another plus point in this terrific sequel is Paul Kersey's new look. Here he deliberately wears old rugged clothes to fit in with the low-lifes, drunks & crazies of the Down town night life of Los Angeles. With his new more worn look, Kersey really looks the part of a Cult movie Anti-hero & plays it Cool with his almost silent Approach as an action hero who is totally focused on stalking his prey & executing them. The main change from the first film is here, Kersey is only concentrating on one particular Gang of thugs, he's not interested in all the other scum around him. I love Bronson in this Exciting & Excellent sequel that ups everything from the first film.

Seeing Bronson slowly walk around the grimy & lively night time world of Down Town Los Angeles is just mesmerising to me, great imagery & scenes. A fantastic Job done by weird Director Michael Winner, he really captured the rough & raw side of Los Angeles at the time & showed us the scary underworld of the famous place of Movie Stars & Dreams.

Again the look is very effective in this film & has a very gloomy look & down town los Angeles at night looks crazy & sleazy as hell, the Atmosphere is dangerous & dark but the cinematography really looks fantastic with the dull dim glow of blue-sh neon light on the dark dirty streets, it's very affective intentional or not? But either way it gives an eerie other worldly look to the night time world of Death Wish 2 & even feels very noir at times.

We all know that the first 1974 Original is the True Masterpiece, but part 2 rivals it in alot of ways.

Now, being a huge "Death Wish" franchise fan means each film has at some point been my favourite, but to be honest i think that "Death Wish" & "Death Wish 2" are the best of the lot in seriousness & film quality & that's because these two are the most brutally realistic, but the crazy action packed exploitation Cult Classic "Death Wish 3" is easily the most fun & makes for a perfect late night piece of entertainment, I've watched Death Wish 3 easily the most & i love it.

Everything that happens in these "Death Wish" films does happen in real life all the time but we don't have a Cool Vigilante Hero like "Bronson" to "take out the trash" so i like to watch Vigilante films, so i can atleast see some Vigilante Justice done to the vile scum that deserves it, because in real life the murdering & rapist scum get away with their sick crimes!!!

It's actually a nice comfort seeing rugged old Bronson out stalking the dark & dangerous streets at night it's because he's a good man,a vigilante hero & it's a comfort seeing some one taking revenge on the evil scum out there that in real life that doesn't happen oh no in real life the scum usually get away with the evil things they do & there is no vigilante hero out the getting vengeance on them so it's a nice fantasy comfort to watch Bronson act it out.

Yes the overall look of this film is very important, the look has to show us the night time world is dangerous & scary & "Death Wish" 2 oozes that Atmospheric look. The atmosphere is full of dread, fear & desperation, at times "Death Wish 2" even feels like a dirty & gritty Horror Slasher flick & that's down to how grimy & raw everything feels.

The music is excellent & fits perfectly with the craziness & rawness of the down town night life.

The punk thugs are vile & evil & that's all you need to know.

Legendary Charles Bronson is excellent as Paul Kersey once again & this time targets & hunts just the one sick gang of thugs that Murdered his daughter & house maid.

Kersey is much more of a hunter this time & he prowls the dark sleazy night time streets searching for those creeps to exterminate them & it's a great iconic controlled performance like a killing machine programmed for one person one mission & i love that this once normal guy is now like "The Punisher" or "The Terminator"

Death Wish 2 is gritty & extremely dark, raw & brutal, a real GRINDHOUSE revenge Thriller & great sequel, a gritty classic in it's own right!!! Great fun watching Bronson hunt & kill the scum of society, i just wish we had a Real Paul Kersey out there killing off the scum as it's gotten so bad now 2019 crime is outta control again!!!

I love the Paul Kersey character he's my favourite hero of Cult Cinema.

Death Wish 1974 is the masterpiece though & DW 3 is the most fun, but each entry is great in their own way!!!

Parts 4 & 5 are alot of Action-packed fun with some excellent scenes & part 5 has the best villain of the franchise!!!

Part 2, will always be remembered as the most scuzzy, grimy & vile of the franchise but that's also why it's probably the most loved of the franchise & why it's become such a big "Cult Classic" movie.

Dark & Dangerous, yes but it's one hell of a great piece of Revenge Fantasy to soak-up & enjoy.

For full-on non-stop gritty action then check-out the hilarious & Awesome "DEATH WISH 3"
