Great Animation, Mediocre Everything Else
29 August 2018
I watched the first episode and a whole lot of short clips to get some sort of idea of what this show is trying to be. I've come to a conclusion:

It isn't as bad as people say it is.

Mind you, this this coming from an artist whose love of bright colors is only surpassed by his love of animation. I adore the art style of this show. The animation, the character designs, the color palette, the show is basically a moving comic. Some people say that the animation is too busy and that it's hard to actually grasp what's going on on the screen, and I really do get where they're coming from. I'd argue, though, that it's not actually that bad, nor that big of a deal. To me, it was a joy to watch, especially after getting used to the style.

Beyond the art style though, I don't have much praise to give. Nothing about the show strikes me as outright _bad_, only kind of mediocre. Something about it seems pandering, towards whom I don't know, but it feels more like a fluffy G-rated fanfiction than an actual show.

It's hard to judge the plot of a show after seeing so few episodes, especially since first episodes tend to be awkward and cumbersome to actually watch through, but it really isn't looking very good for the turtle brothers.

Even after all this, I'd still argue most people would, or at least should, enjoy watching the show, as long as you're _not_ expecting a deep narrative or something to feed your hunger for nostalgia. It deviates from almost everything TMNT has always been, though that's not automatically a bad thing.

You should give it a chance.
