Deep mysteries inside the madness
3 September 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Maybe Fulci's masterpiece. In this movie he manages to accord a plot relatively simple (a series of murders and the research of the killer) with a deep analysis about madness and psychotic behaviors. The movie can maintain the tension until the end, with the killer really well hidden, and with a mix between natural and unnatural. The various characters infact incarnate different form of madness: the witch; the unconsciousness of population; the priest, finally, that want the dead of his kids for save them from sin.

With a low budget, with the b-movie atmosphere, with a dynamic kind of filming (phenomenal the rapid passages between scenes with the dialogues uninterrupted) and with a scenery, the southern Italy, that's not only an unedited place but also active part in the plot (the rocks that kill the priest), Fulci manages to create a movie that is at the same time the quintessence of underground entertainment movie and an intense study, through the giallo, of human psychotic way of acting.
