Some Bullies You Gotta Fight
28 October 2019
I really love how you can feel the presence of The Whisperers without seeing them on screen all that much. Alpha has had, what, a few scenes all season besides the episode that almost entirely Whisperer based? This week there was paranoia, chaos, destruction, and we weren't even certain if much of it was caused by The Whisperers. I appreciated the theatricality of Negan a good bit, but there's something so refreshing about this storyline.

We got to spend more time with Cassady Mcclincy's 'Lydia' this week as she was constantly targeted by bitter survivors, who knew many victims of Whisperer attacks. If the somewhat contrived attack on Lydia was the roundabout way to get Negan out of his cell then I'm all for it. It was pretty awesome to see him protect another 'outsider' like that and I have even found myself rooting for him? Never thought I would say that.

Speaking of someone who hasn't had a ton of Negan interaction this year, Judith had a few great scenes this week. One being when she fought side by side with Michonne as they assisted Hilltop once the wall came down. The other, being the controversation about how there are some bullies that need to be fought, which seemed to be the overarching theme this week, and maybe even the season as a whole. Does Negan's escape mean he will cross paths with Alpha? Is he simply just looking for Lucille?

We're already 1/4th of the way through this season and I'm still curious as to how the structure is going to play out, especially with the departure of Michonne and the apparent re-addition of Maggie at some point. And will the Whisperers ultimately be wrapped up by the Spring or will they drag this storyline on like they did with The Saviors? Whatever the case may be, the season is once again shaping out to be another impressive arc for the show.
