Dodgy Story
11 December 2019
I was not sure what the story/screenplay was about, a complication about Paul Newman working at a White Supremacists Radio Station confused with an odd relationship with him and his real wife Joanne Wodward who played a down at the heel prostitute to start but became more righteous, with a few other odd characters thrown in, it was not a good mix.

The acting was great but I suspect the actors were as confused as I, Anthony Perkins did a fine cameo as someone who wanted to rebel against the white supremacists (although I am not sure what kind of person he was meant to be), there were a few token hippy characters, a fake evangelist, the supremists led by a usual style Pat Hingle, whom Perkins tried to assassinate at the end. It was well made but confusing and never cleared up ?

I am sure there was a story in there somewhere, but it never reached me, I did look for it, but never found it. This was an off day for Director Stuart Rosenberg, the producers must have been punished at the box office, maybe it was them that was confused ?

I only gave it a 4 for the acting of Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward, who seemed to be in a world of their own when together, i.e. just absorbed in themselves, whilst the rest of the movie shambled along.
