A one of a kind film
21 January 2020
A black &white feat for the eyes. Period costumes: astonishing. Depiction of life in a 16th century small Flemish town: a visual treat worthy of a Flemish painting.Comic timing: perfect. The plot is delightfully devious, the characters are priceless. and the actors are wonderful. The theme behind that wicked story is universal (and apparently irked a lot of people in the late 1930 when that movie was made.) The story told by this film is no fairy tale, but its treatment by the director and script writers is a scrumptious beignet. A delight.
