Tarzan and the Lost City (1998)
28 March 2020
Directed by Carl Schenkel. Starring Casper Van Dien, Jane March, Steven Waddington, Rapulana Seiphemo, Ian Roberts, Winston Ntshona, Sean Taylor. (PG-13)

The poster called it "a new Tarzan for a new generation"--they can keep it. As if picking up from a prior outing with this cast and crew (there isn't one), the lord of the apes is already back at his ancestral home in England, society has "tamed" him, and he has already "tamed" Jane Porter, but that doesn't prevent him from abandoning her on the eve of their wedding to protect his old African stamping grounds from plunderers. Van Dien is as fit as any previous Tarzan, and March is as fetching as any Jane before her, but the expedition to find their acting ability would be more doomed than the one searching for the titular city. Assembled without care or ambition, and the digital effects during the climax are atrociously unconvincing. One of the producers is Stanley S. Canter, who also co-produced the much better and classier "Greystoke: The Legend of Tarzan, Lord of the Apes" film from 1984.
