2/10
Fails in comparison to the original

Warning: Spoilers
I really wanted to like this movie. The original is stellar. I was expecting the same quality regarding story, character likability/acting and beautiful cinematography. This movie fails in comparison and I found it boring. The only characters that are supposed to be the same from the original story are Nanette Newman as Velvet Brown and her horse, The Pie. Newman is just okay in this role and not believable as Velvet Brown. And they didn't even TRY to match the horse from the original movie, which was King Charles (who was a grandson of the great Man O' War).

The story uses the premise that Velvet's niece, Sarah, will be competing on the last foal sired by The Pie. (I should have quit watching right then but I like Anthony Hopkins so I suffered through the entire movie). The Pie is a GELDING in the original, which completely blows the theory this movie is based on. There are multiple completely unbelievable occurrences in this movie. I won't list them all. (They're not just inconsistencies but rather unfathomable situations/reactions. )

Save your time. I can't believe anyone found this movie worth watching. The jumping scenes were good but that was about it. Other reviewers said the cinematography was stunning. It was not. The scenery was nice but the cinematography failed in comparison to the original which IS stunningly spectacular in every way - 10/10. I give International Velvet 2/10 and found it so absolutely awful I was moved to write this review. Linking this movie to the original is completely blasphemous. This movie should have been presented independently from the original and not tried so desperately to ride the coat tails of a beloved classic.
