Mommy Be Mine (2018 TV Movie)

The Little Doll House

Warning: Spoilers
There is a prominent visual symbol in "Mommy Be Mine" that is the eye-catching doll house in the bedroom of young Cara Dawson, the girl in search of the perfect mother. It is her quest for the ideal home and the ideal mother that drives Cara to the commit a string dastardly crimes past and present.

Cara befriends young Summer Hughes, the daughter of the hard-working and devoted mother Lianne. The mother and daughter are still in recovery from the loss of George Hughes, who died in an auto crash. Under the guise of Summer's friend, Cara pursues her obsession to enter into the sphere of Lianne, and she even begins calling her "Mom."

The most interesting character in the film was the workaholic Lianne. A sensitive and caring woman, Lianne empathizes with Cara and is kind to her. But she is also slow in recognizing the unhealthy dimension of Cara's obsession and surprisingly dismissive of the claims of Summer that Cara is responsible for the chaos in their lives.

The film was a by-the-numbers story of a psycho on the loose. Late in the drama, it is revealed that Cara was responsible for killing her own mother, and she ghoulishly lived in the home with the mother's body for period of six weeks when she was a six-year-old. The bodies continue to stack up after Summer's bestie, Tori, gets wise to Cara and makes the fatal mistake of entering her home. Courtney Lund, a student at Cara's previous school was killed by her. And April, the close friend of Courtney, is yet another victim in an unpleasant string of calamities. It was especially the loss of the faithful Tori that was disappointing and should have alerted Lianne to Cara's deeply troubled psyche.

The film's ending was routine and open-ended, and it lacked credibility after Cara had incurred a serious stab wound, yet vanishes into thin air. At least, Summer has returned to her devoted boyfriend, Jason de la Garza, and Lianne has accepted a marriage proposal from her boss, Steve. But the happy family may not have heard the last from Miss Cara Dawson.
