Review of 's Up

Bottom: 's Up (1991)
Season 1, Episode 5
6/10
Nation of shopkeepers and jaffa cake thieves
1 October 2020
Richie and Eddie take charge of their landlord's shop as a favour.

We get a silly parody of proud Britishness as the central characters do the usual banter, slapstick and abuse in a fairly enjoyable but in some cases forgettable episode.

The highlight for me comes about 9 minutes into the episode when Richie pretends to call the cops on an imaginary jaffa cake thief and goes through a little medley of Hollywood movie cliches. Unknown to him he's being observed by a little old lady who he then threatens to beat up after she's inquires about his sanity. This is a classic Rik Mayall moment.

The rest of the episode in my opinion is fairly mediocre, by the usual standards, but as always, comedy is matter of taste.

Those of us who have lived in Britain most of our lives and experienced British customer service might have a giggle at the superior attitude parodied by Richie as he goes into 'nation of shopkeepers' mode and gives the worst possible abuse imaginable to each customer.
